Donating to the Hispanic Scholars Program isn’t just about supporting our over 11 annual programs centered on Latinx theological education. It’s about supporting the next generation of leaders. HSP Alumni have used the tools they gained in our programs to reshape entire institutions and cities. Rev. Dorlimar Lebron Malave shifted her career trajectory after participating in the Latinx Discernment Workshop, leading her to pastor “The People’s Church” in East Harlem which served on the front lines of food and vaccine distribution at the beginning of the COVID pandemic. Dean Lelia Fry of Bexley Seabury Theological Seminary took what she learned at Through Hispanic Eyes and used it to reshape the seminary’s curriculum in order to be more culturally responsive. Writer Prisca Dorcas Mojica Rodriguez used the empowerment of the HSP Summer Session and the deep relationships built with Latina scholars as inspiration for her vibrant career authoring For Brown Girls with Sharp Edges and Tender Hearts and Tias and Primas. And the list goes on.
Donating to the HSP, then, isn’t just about the organization. It’s about empowering leaders who will be on the front lines of global crises, who will reshape institutions, and who will use their words and talents and help us reimagine the world that is and the world that could be.
