Education

Our educational programs are designed for undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate students of Sponsoring Schools. Programs are offered in the Summer and in the January Term.

The HSP began with the Summer Session, which was, and still is, held every Summer at a different Sponsoring School each year. The HSP then grew to include the J-Term, which is a single course held in January, the Latinx Doctoral Accompaniment Seminar, which is for grad students in their final year applying to Doctoral programs, the Praxis of Accompaniment, which is chaplain training, and our newest addition, HSP for Undergrads, which is–as its name suggests–for undergraduate students.

Our Offerings

The J-Term takes place every year in January as a two-week intensive via Zoom. Each J-Term is taught by a different professor on a different topic. This program is open to Masters and Doctorate students.

Our flagship program, the Summer Session, takes place every year in June at a different Sponsoring School institution. In this program, students gather from all over the world for a two-week in-person intensive, where they get to choose one of six courses to take from leading scholars of the Latinx diaspora. This program is open to Masters and Doctorate students.

The Latinx Doctoral Accompaniment Seminar is designed for Masters students in their final year of grad school. This program guides Latinx students of Sponsoring Schools through the application process of Doctoral programs. Facilitators walk with students through each step of the process, from institutional research, to editing and proofreading writing samples for submission, and opportunities to meet with University admissions and program directors.

The Praxis of Accompaniment partners with surgeons in the United States and with medical professionals in Paraguay and Bolivia in order to increase access to safe, affordable surgery and other essential health care. Students learn the nuance of providing pastoral care through the lens of theology, history, counseling, and Catholic social theory.

Learn More

This program gives undergraduate students the opportunity to take an upper-level course in theology, ethics, or history with a Latinx professor who is currently teaching at an ATS school. They will then become part of a cohort and have the ability to discern next steps as they make a decision about graduate programs.
