Position Summary

Founded in 1989, the Hispanic Scholars Program (HSP) is a national nonprofit organization that supports theological leaders committed to the Latine community, particularly undergraduate and graduate students in theological and religious studies. HSP cultivates spaces that are ecumenical, interreligious, and empowering — fostering collaboration among Latine and non-Latine communities through education, scholarship, mentorship, and professional development.

The Associate Director of Advancement and Strategic Partnerships will work closely with the Executive Director to sustain relationships with, and recruit new, Sponsoring Schools; pour into and coordinate programs for HSP alumni; and build out the organization’s fundraising infrastructure, particularly around individual giving. The role also carries annual responsibility for coordinating El Semillero: Executive Certificate in Religious Fundraising, along with travel to cultivate and sustain new and existing relationships.

The ideal candidate brings deep knowledge of graduate theological education, a natural ability to cultivate relationships, an understanding of the realities facing Latine communities, and strong management, research, and development skills.

Responsibilities and Duties

Advancement

  • Design and manage a moves-management process for a portfolio of individual donor prospects, from identification and cultivation through solicitation and stewardship, using Salesforce to track engagement and next steps.
  • Develop and meet annual fundraising metrics for individual giving (e.g., number of new donors, dollars raised, donor retention rate), set collaboratively with the Executive Director.
  • Partner with the Executive Director to identify, cultivate, and steward prospective Sponsoring Schools, including preparing briefing materials and leading or co-leading outreach meetings.
  • Develop donor- and sponsor-facing materials — including impact reports, one-pagers, and proposal templates — that clearly articulate HSP’s mission, vision, and impact.
  • Represent HSP at select conferences, convenings, and Sponsoring School visits to build and sustain relationships (approximately 35% travel).

Program Management

  • Coordinate specialized programming for HSP Sponsoring Schools, including scheduling, agenda development, and follow-up, with tailored content for admissions officers, development officers, faculty, and administrators.
  • Partner with the HSP Alumni Network to plan and implement programming across four areas: the Micro-Grant program, the Sub-Committee on Fundraising and Development, the Latine Global Solidarity Series, and the annual HSP Alumni Award, including managing selection timelines and communications for the Award.
  • Coordinate and promote the annual El Semillero: Executive Certificate in Religious Fundraising program alongside Core Staff, including managing the program calendar, participant communications, and logistics.
  • Track program milestones, deadlines, and outcomes across all programmatic areas, providing regular status updates to the Executive Director.

Infrastructure Management

  • Serve as primary administrator of HSP’s donor database (Salesforce), maintaining accurate records of donor, sponsor, and alumni engagement.
  • Recommend and implement improvements to donor data management practices, reporting workflows, and gift-tracking processes.
  • Maintain project and task tracking in Monday.com for advancement and program initiatives, ensuring deadlines and ownership are clearly documented.
  • Coordinate day-to-day communication and collaboration with Core Staff and Sponsoring School partners via Slack and Google Workspace (Gmail, Drive, Calendar, Docs/Sheets).
Systems Used

This role works regularly across the following platforms:

  •  Salesforce — donor and sponsor database, gift tracking, and reporting
  • Monday.com — project and task management across programs
  • Slack — internal team communication
  • Google Workspace — email, calendar, file storage, and collaborative documents
Qualifications
  • Minimum 2–5 years of experience in advancement, alumni relations, and/or board development at a university, seminary, or nonprofit organization.
  • Deep understanding of graduate theological education and the current needs of theological schools.
  • Experience with, or strong understanding of, communities of color, particularly Latine communities, including their history, culture, and struggles for justice.
  • Collaborative spirit and demonstrated ability to work effectively on a remote team.
  • Demonstrated experience mentoring students or early-career professionals.
  • Strong written, oral, and digital communication skills, adaptable across audiences including faculty, administrators, students, foundation leaders, and donors.
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills, with the ability to independently manage multiple concurrent projects.
  • Working proficiency with donor databases and project management platforms (e.g., Salesforce, Monday.com) preferred.
  • Graduate education in theology, religion, education, organizational leadership, nonprofit management, or a related field preferred.
