Reflecting with Rev. Dr. Daisy L. Machado, Ph.D

July 31, 2026

Born in Camagüey, Cuba, and raised in Brooklyn, New York, the Rev. Dr. Daisy L. Machado is a pastor, sister, scholar, daughter, administrator, educator, and friend. She has distinguished herself over her career by her commitment to community, pursuit of grounded innovation, and pedagogical prowess. Under her leadership, the HSP has grown to what it is today, and for her, we are thankful.

Question: What piece of your tenure at the HSP are you most proud of?

DLM: My years at the HSP were really a wonderful experience, but what I am most proud of is knowing I played a core and vital part in the growth of the HSP as an institution—seeing my dreams for the HSP come to life in new programming, in getting external funding, in opening doors for new opportunities for folks who were not originally envisioned as part of the HSP’s reach.

Question: What are you looking forward to in this next stage of the HSP’s growth?

DLM: The HSP is poised to continue to strengthen its programming and to continuing to deepen its roots as an organization—to solidify as it continues its impactful programming. This, of course, will lead to a stronger HSP and also an HSP able to expand in new and exciting ways. I see a bright future for the HSP!

The Rev. Dr. Daisy L. Machado, Ph.D. will retire on July 31, 2026, following thirteen years of distinguished leadership that carried HSP through a season of remarkable transformation and growth. The entire HSP community expresses gratitude for Machado’s faithfulness to this life-changing organization.
