The Hispanic Scholars Program (HSP) is now accepting applications for the position of Executive Director. This is a full-time, core staff position and is remote, with regular travel required for programs, board meetings, conferences, and partner engagement.
Founded in 1989, HSP is a national nonprofit organization that supports theological leaders committed to serving the Latine community, particularly undergraduate and graduate students in theological and religious studies.

Reports To:
The Executive Director reports to the Executive Committee and to the Board of Directors to advance strategic priorities while exercising independent leadership over day-to-day operations and staff management.
Supervises:
The Executive Director supervises the Deputy Executive Director, Administrator, and Assistant Director for Programming.
Position Summary:
Founded in 1989, the Hispanic Scholars Program (HSP) is a national nonprofit organization that supports theological leaders committed to the Latine community, particularly undergraduate and graduate students in theological and religious studies. HSP cultivates spaces that are ecumenical, interreligious, and empowering—fostering collaboration among Latine and non-Latine communities through education, scholarship, mentorship, and professional development.
The Executive Director (ED) serves as HSP’s chief executive, providing visionary leadership to advance the organization’s mission, strategy, and programs. The ED ensures that HSP is an innovative, sustainable, and effective organization, aligning programmatic, operational, and development activities with its commitment to the empowerment of Latine leaders. The ideal ED is a seasoned leader in theological education with a deep understanding of nonprofit organizations and work, a strong connection to Latine communities, and a proven ability to inspire and mobilize staff, students, faculty, donors, and community partners.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Organizational Leadership and Strategy
- Provide strategic vision, leadership, and oversight for all aspects of HSP’s mission, programs, and operations.
- Work with the Board of Directors to develop organizational goals, long-term strategy, and policy initiatives.
- Ensure alignment across programmatic areas—Education, Public Scholarship, Mentorship, and Professional Development.
- Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, collaboration, and inclusion across the organization.
- Program Oversight and Impact
- Ensure the design and execution of high-quality programs that create Latine-centered educational experiences and cultivate Latine leadership in theological education.
- Promote ecumenical and interreligious collaboration and build bridges between Latine and non-Latine communities.
- Oversee program evaluation and impact assessment to ensure effectiveness, sustainability, and alignment with mission and funder requirements.
- Strengthen partnerships with theological schools, universities, community organizations, and faith-based institutions.
- Operational and Administrative Management
- Lead day-to-day operations, ensuring robust administrative, HR, financial, and technological systems.
- Develop and manage the annual budget in partnership with the Board and finance staff.
- Ensure compliance with organizational policies, legal requirements, and funder reporting obligations.
- Support staff development, mentorship, and performance management to build an empowered and collaborative team.
- Development and External Relations
- Serve as the primary external representative of HSP, cultivating relationships with funders, donors, alumni, community partners, and the broader theological education ecosystem.
- Lead fundraising strategy, including grant development, major gifts, and donor stewardship.
- Promote visibility of HSP’s work through conferences, public speaking, publications, and media outreach.
- Advocate for Latine representation, leadership, and scholarship within theological education.
- Ensure responsible stewardship of major grants and restricted funds, including compliance, reporting, and alignment with funder goals.
- People and Culture
- Champion an organizational culture grounded in justice, equity, and inclusion, reflecting HSP’s theological and ethical commitments.
- Support mentorship and professional development opportunities for Latine leaders, particularly women and other underserved populations.
- Model values of collaborative leadership, cultural literacy, and theological engagement for all staff, students, and stakeholders.
Desired Qualifications:
- Minimum 5–7 years of senior leadership experience in theological education, non-profit, or faith-based organization.
- Demonstrated success leading teams, managing budgets, and overseeing complex programs.
- Deep knowledge of theological education and experience engaging with seminaries, universities, and related institutions.
- Strong understanding of Latiné communities, religious diversity, and the intersections of race, theology, and education.
- Proven ability to cultivate relationships with diverse stakeholders, including faculty, students, donors, and community leaders.
- Ph.D. or terminal degree in theology, religion, education, nonprofit management, or a related field preferred.
- Bilingual candidates (English/Spanish) strongly encouraged but not required.

Compensation and Benefits
The Executive Director receives salary and benefits as defined by Grant 2023 1108 to Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary. Additionally, the Executive Director receives a stipend from the Hispanic Scholars Program, approved by the Governing Board in accordance with the organizational Bylaws.
